Therapy Methods

Build a Brain Therapy provides a unique form of therapy for students with social communication deficits such as Autism and ADHD. We use play-based building materials to support interactions with other peers, siblings, and to enhance the parent/child relationship. We employ iterative learning techniques – learning by doing rather than being told – to teach children of all ages and diversity how to construct collaboratively with a common goal.

Interactive LEGO®-Based therapy

LEGO®-Based Therapy is a research-based intervention that supports clients with social communication difficulties (ASD, ADHD etc).

It utilizes collaborative play in which children interact and work together to build LEGO® models. Instead of building LEGO® sets by themselves, children work in pairs or teams of three or more. The task of LEGO® building is highly imaginative and immersive, and both verbal and nonverbal communication are necessitated by participation in the the group activity.

Key social experiences such as collaboration, joint attention, joint accomplishment, division of labor, sharing, turn-taking, eye contact, gaze following, verbal communication, and nonverbal communication are emphasized or coached by our LEGO®-Based Therapy staff, while participants focus on the joint creative process. LEGO®-based Therapy can be used in both individual and and group therapy modalities, during which natural opportunities are used to practice social communication, social support, social problem solving and conflict resolution skills. Our team of certified behavioral specialists include a BCBA, SLP, OT, Education Specialist, and Psychologist on staff to support the whole child and their family during our six week program. We encourage the entire family’s involvement in the activities, to create a supportive social environment for the child.
